1,543 kids in Jefferson County have registered for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, but are not yet receiving books.

Let’s raise $20,368 together this holiday season so that all of the young children on the waitlist will receive a free book in the mail each month.

Children growing up in homes without books are on average three years behind children in homes with lots of books, even when controlled for other key factors such as income and parents’ education.

As the local affiliate for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Better Basics delivers a book every month to young children enrolled in Jefferson County from birth through age 5 at no cost to families.

Better Basics is responsible for fundraising to pay for the program costs, postage, and half the cost of the books. It's only because of generous neighbors like you that we can continue to provide books at no cost to families.

Studies have shown that having even 20 books in the home increases a child's educational achievement. By giving the gift of literacy, you are helping underserved students to become more likely to graduate from high school, succeed at work, and live productive lives.

Just $1320 provides books for a child in the program for a year. For as little as $66, you can provide books for 5 children each month of the year. We need to raise $20,368 to ensure all registered children on the waitlist will receive books in 2024.
